INDONESIA

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Since 2004 Indonesia has been battered by natural disaster, and many communities have struggled to recover from the recent tsunamis. Our work in the archipelago includes rebuilding essential toilets, wells, and emergency shelters.

Taking place in 2004 and 2018, two devastating tsunamis have killed over 122,000 people. 70,000 homes were destroyed or badly damaged and more than 2 million people have been adversely affected.

Right now, almost 10% of the population lives below the poverty line (Statista Research Department, 2021), struggling to afford basics like food and bills; 12.6% does not have access to clean water (CIA World Factbook, 2018), leaving them susceptible to disease. Families are finding it difficult to look after their children, and 2.6% of Indonesian children die before their 5th birthday (ADB 2017).

We want to help those families to look after themselves and give their children a better future. Our work building wells, communal toilets, and shelters, is a lifeline for many families in Indonesia.

OUR WORK

Working alongside our partners on the ground in some of Indonesia’s worst-hit areas, we’ve made plans to lift 5,600 families out of hardship… that’s an astonishing 30,000 people. Our aid delivery partners are working around the clock to provide people with hope for a better tomorrow.

We have drawn up plans to build 400 communal toilets, a semi-permanent mosque, 50 wells for safe water, and 2,000 Huntaras (Temporary Occupancy Shelters). It’s an ambitious project and we have a long road ahead of us. But we are committed to doing all we can to supply people in Indonesia with a safer way of living.

Our Huntaras offer life-saving shelter to people and families. Your donation will give a homeless family a place to sleep, eat, and care for their children. There’s no greater need than that.

Donate to our Indonesia Shelter campaign and help us to build shelter for desperate families.
