Overview
We may take education for granted but with at least 250 million children across the world not currently in any sort of learning system, urgent action needs to be taken to rectify this.
Education forms the foundation of society and is responsible for the growth and development of communities. It provides children with the tools to improve their prospects and as a result better the lives of future generations.
Knowledge empowers children and creates opportunity to lift themselves out of the difficulties faced by their parents. With your help, Salam Charity will be working towards providing children in Pakistan and Bangladesh with the resources needed to learn.
Our aims
- Making education an attainable goal for children leading impoverished and difficult lives.
- Empowering the next generation to gain the knowledge and skills to allow them to build a better life.
- Providing the resources to ensure children do not go hungry at school.
Stats
- 263 million children and youngsters are not in school
- An estimated 61 million primary-school-age children are out of school; 53% of them are girls increasing the risk of forced child marriage.
- 420 million children will not learn even the most basic skills.
- 124 million children have not even started school or have been forced to drop out.
Previous Work
Pakistan has one of the poorest education systems in the world, the second highest out-of-school rate in the world and third highest illiteracy rate.
Although the Constitution of Pakistan states that every child has the right to free and compulsory education, this is not the reality. Due to poverty and cultural beliefs, families prioritise additional income over education, sending their children out to work, rather than to school, and families prioritise sending their sons to school over their daughters.
Education is a basic human right, a powerful instrument for change and critical for Pakistan’s growth and prosperity. Yet millions of children – mainly girls – are engaged in child labour and being denied their right to learn, to thrive and to reach their full potential.
Salam Charity has partnered with Shahid Afridi Foundation to establish a number of schools and support existing schools with its infrastructure and operational needs.
With your help, we can transform the lives of these underprivileged children.
Case Study
New desks in Kutupalong
Last year 500 new desks were given to students in the Learning Centres in Kutupalong.
Abul Miah had a fantastic idea to decorate the desks in bright colours with illustrations and words to aid the children’s learning.
All the children got involved to help paint the desks. The desks look fantastic and help create a bright, colourful, fun learning environment.
For £15 per month Salam Charity will provide a child with warm daily tiffin box school meals.
Children should not have to go hungry at school and we are working hard to ensure the children we support are able to attend school and learn whilst eating properly throughout the day
For £35 per month our education project will pay for a child’s school fees, stationery, school bags, uniform, and daily school meals.
Your sponsored child will be given a good education acting as a form of sadaqah jariyah for you Insha’Allah.
As refugees continue to flood into the already overcrowded camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, an estimated 10,000 children have been born into the camps themselves and sadly know no other life than this.
Unless something is done to make a real change these children will continue to live in conditions of extreme poverty and difficulty in the camps. Beneficial knowledge is one of the fundamental aspects of sadaqah jariyah so why not sponsor an education for a child in need today and equip them with the tools they need to lift themselves out of poverty.
Empowering children within impoverished communities raises an entire generation, giving them the platform they need in order to change their paths and lives.
Many children attend schools which have no boundary walls, classroom furniture or even suitable drinking water, if at all. Some schools are in highly dangerous areas, which leaves parents fearful to even send their children into them.
Donate to our school project today and help towards the building or refurbishment of a school providing children a safe space in which to grow, learn and gain an education.
