GHANA

Ghana has a population of 30 million people, but 23 million of those do not have access to a safe source of water. Our projects in this country are helping to provide local, safe water and a better way of life.

The water sources used by most villagers are rife with parasites and transmit water-borne diseases like Cholera. But they’re the only options, since water is desperately needed, not only for drinking and washing, but for food preparation, livestock and growing crops. It’s usually girls and women who undertake the long walk to fetch water, when they could be using their time more productively.

For 23 million people in Ghana, a safe source of water would have a dramatic and life-changing impact.

OUR WORK

Our Water Well campaign provides a clean and safe water source to a community of around 1,000 people per well. This means women and girls don’t have to make the risky journey to fetch unsafe water. It also drastically reduces the number of water-borne diseases, for both the beneficiaries and their livestock.

A single deep water well transforms the lives of over 1,000 people and will continue to provide access to safe water for over 20 years.

We are also working to develop long-term sustainable training projects for women, including a micro-gardening course. This teaches women how to use tools to farm, in order to create their own source of income. We want to create social change by empowering these women to become self-employed in a sustainable manner.

Help us to build more wells and offer more people a safer way of life. Support our projects by donating to our Ghana appeal today.
