Qurbani update 20th August 2019

This year you sacrificed more than must your time…

“So turn in prayer towards your Lord and sacrifice.” (108:2)

The 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are the most sacred days of the year and thanks to your sacrifices we were able to provide hundreds of people with quality, ethically sourced meat this Eid.

Right now, almost 1 billion people around the world are struggling with violence, famine and poverty. In Yemen the situation continues to get worse as the violence intensifies displacing millions of people and leaving them with no food or shelter. In Bangladesh, people continue to flood into the already overcrowded camps filling it to bursting point.

Thanks to you we were able to distribute meat to those who need it the most. Working alongside our partners on the ground we helped hundreds of families with lifesaving nutrition, giving them a glimmer of hope for the future.

How it works

We worked closely with our partners on the ground to ensure that the welfare of the animal was our number 1 priority. All animals were above 2 years old with a welfare history for at least 6 months ensuring that the animals were free from disease and lived a healthy life.

Animals must a sound disease and illness prevention programme and allowed the freedom to graze organically. This is checked with the famers through a series of intensive questionnaires to determine the health of the animal.

We split the animal into portions and each family receives 3kg of meat. The meat is distributed to those who need it the most. One pack per person equates to roughly a week’s worth of nutrition for a family of 5.

Who you helped?

YEMEN – In Yemen you were able to feed hundreds of people and help them enjoy the blessed day of Eid with the rest of the ummah. Working alongside our longstanding partners who have been on the ground in Yemen since before the war began, we were able to distribute meat in the area of Taiz where the ongoing violence has cut off the civilian population from the rest of the country.

BANGLADESH – In the Rohingya camp in Bangladesh, officially the largest refugee camp in the world, you helped distribute quality meat to families living on the brinks of society. People continue to flock to the camps to escape discrimination or in search of a better life, but the camp offers little opportunity and life is a daily struggle.

You have helped hundreds of families with qurbani meat, giving them one less thing to worry about this Eid. Children were able to eat their fill and really understand the meaning of Eid.

This year, we were able to help almost 200 families with fresh, live giving meat, that’s over a thousand individuals. Thanks to you, we will continue to help more and more people and make sure that we step closer to our dream of seeing a world without poverty.

The fight still goes on…

New sanctions in the Rohingya camps have restricted the refugees lives even further and the ongoing conflict in Yemen has no end in sight – continuing to displace thousands of innocent civilians. YOU can be the difference. With your support we can end the suffering for these people and restore their dignity.
